What is Roundup?
Roundup is an herbicide used worldwide since the 1970’s. Originally manufactured by Monsanto Company, now owned by Bayer AG, Roundup is the world's leading herbicide for broad spectrum use. Farmers, homeowners, gardeners, and law care professionals have used Roundup for decades to fight weeds in a wide range of applications. While it is also used on a large agriculture scale to protect crops from weeds, it is commonly used by residential owners for lawn care.
Dangers of Exposure to Roundup
Recent studies revealed Roundup’s active ingredient, glyphosate, can cause cancer. Glyphosate is a small compound designed to block enzymes needed for plant growth, making it an ideal ingredient for many of the most popular weed killers on the market.
However, recent research discovered long-term exposure to glyphosate can cause cancer. In fact, one 2019 study revealed glyphosate exposure can increase one’s risk of developing cancer by 41%. Additionally, in 2015 the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) categorized glyphosate as being “probably carcinogenic to humans.” Now, many long-term users of Roundup are concerned their cancer diagnoses was caused by their exposure to Roundup.
Those at risk of cancers caused by Roundup may include:
Industrial farm workers
Roundup Linked to Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma
One of the main cancers glyphosate in Roundup has been linked to is Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The Mayo Clinic defines Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma as a cancer that develops in the lymphatic system. People diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma develop tumors from white blood cells called lymphocytes. Depending on the diagnoses, treatment for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma can be extremely extensive and costly. Unfortunately, no cure has been discovered for Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma yet, so many diagnosed do not survive.
Symptoms of Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma include:
Enlarged lymph nodes
Shortness of breath
Sudden weight loss

Pain and suffering
Many of the Roundup lawsuits that have gone to trial claimed that long-term exposure to Roundup weed killer caused individuals to develop non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. Fortunately, many Roundup juries have awarded damages in favor of plaintiffs, sometimes resulting in multimillion-dollar verdicts. In a landmark verdict in May 2019, a California jury awarded $2.055 billion dollars to a couple who developed non-Hodgkin’s after using Monsanto’s Roundup for 30 years spraying weeds on their property.
